THG Archives
Begun in 1990, the THG Archives has grown to become one of the nation’s largest industry archives, and includes documentation of the telecom industry from its inception in 1876 through the present time. It is especially strong in its documentation of companies from the midwest and western states.

What You Will Find ...
- Telephone directories – our collection consists of over 10,000 Bell System and Regional Bell Operating Company phone books from 1890 through the present, representing Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
- Photographs – Our photograph collection consists of over 100,000 prints and 20,000 negatives from as far back as 1876.
- Historic documents – Records from over 500 historic telephone companies (and several currently operational companies) west of the Mississippi. These include ledgers, articles of incorporation and dissolution, Board meeting minutes, correspondence, stock certificates, and other documentation.
- Serials - Union publications and Telephone Pioneer and company newsletters and magazines from 1900 to the present.
- Memoirs, scrapbooks, unpublished manuscripts, and oral histories from telephone company executives and employees.
- Policies and procedures - Regional Policies and Procedures, Interdepartmental Memos, Bell System Practices, Records Retention Schedules, etc.
- Audio and video recordings - advertising, training, etc. (more than 15,000 videotapes films, and DVDs and nearly 5,000 audiotapes).
- An extensive reference library of publications about the industry.
- Current events - We track—via public records such as news clippings and financial reports—nearly 3,000 current telephone, wireless, manufacturing, internet, and interactive cable companies around the world, as well as industry-related legislation, trends, and statistics.
- Ephemera – including toys, promotional material, service awards, postcards, and whatever else you can think of that relates in some way to telecommunications.
Research
The THG Archives is located at 1425 Champa Street in Downtown Denver and is open to qualified researchers by appointment. THG staff provides research services to customers who are unable to personally access the archives.

By scheduling a visit, you agree to the following policies:
- No food or drinks are allowed in the research area.
- No pens may be used while performing research. We will provide you with a pencil if needed.
- To protect the documents and photographs, you may not wear gloves or use hand sanitizer while handling archive materials. Please wash your hands frequently using soap and water instead.
- A fee of $20 per four-hour session (plus any copying charges) will apply. This should be paid at the time of your visit.
